If the door will not open from the inside check that the child safety lock is not engaged.
If the door does not allow the lock to be jimmied open it may be necessary to remove the door from its hinges.
Lubricating the door latch is one of the ways in which doors that won t open from the inside or the outside can be fixed.
Sometimes opening the door from inside will free the door mechanism and allow it to work properly.
If the bolt moves but not enough to allow the door to open the mechanism probably needs lubrication.
This is usually only on one side either the inside handle won t open the door or the outside handle won t open the door but the other one will work fine.

Look for the set screw on neck of the knob between the handle and door.
Look for a screw in the bezel under the handle lever.
Some models have handles that have no screw but are held on by locks which are disengaged by sliding the bezel either forward or back.
